Presenters: Sandra Haynes & Katie Datko
Description: Through our interactions with our own students and colleagues who want to work more effectively and succeed in online learning, my co-presenter and I will address current approaches to course design and best practices. We are convinced that students, first of all, require consistency to reduce cognitive load, while our colleagues are very interested in how to organize an online course to meet student needs. These issues arise most often after initial introductions to Canvas and the online environment.
Using our experience with our own online courses, training, course design, and the POCR review process, the presenters will demonstrate and describe how to approach the core element of a Canvas course, the module, referencing Section A of the OEI Rubric with examples from our own courses. By engaging our peers in the process of collaboration and course development we will empower our OTC participants to begin or revisit course design and navigation, and understand how these vital elements of an online course contribute positively to an equitable student experience.
