Session Info:
The transition to fully online education and remote work has impacted all academic institutions. The ability to rapidly scale up our online services, teaching certification, canvas unilization, and educational technologies to meet the initial demand was critical to sustaining high quality online teaching and learning and maintaining enrollment, student success, and equity. Equally critical is our ability to effectively sustain online education and high quality services long term while many departments/divisions may have limited resources and staff. At Long Beach City College, we rapidly transitioned to fully online teaching and learning within a two week period, scaled up to 98% of all courses utilizing our Canvas LMS in Spring 2020, increased our faculty Online Teaching Certification by 184% in Summer 2020 (leading to 100% certification of assigned faculty), increased enrollment in our QUEST online student readiness by 300%, launched all student services online, and more.
This presentation will highlight key collaborations, initiatives, and concepts that will benefit other institutions (faculty, staff, managers, department heads, deans) in successfully scaling and sustaining, long term, quality online education with limited resources and staff. This will include: – Leadership essentials and building key collaborations to successfully scale and sustain a fully online college and maintain quality online teaching and learning. – Leveraging data Tracking Dashboards for Online Teaching Certifications and Canvas Utilization to optimize procedures and efficiency of online services and workflows for faculty, department Heads, and Deans, with limited staffing. – Implementing educational technologies, resources, initiatives, and services supporting online student success, equity, and accessibility. – Current and future challenges and opportunities for online education.
