Friday June 19th, 2020 at 1:30 pm - 2:20 pm

Presenter: Araceli Trujillo

Why are there so few language courses taught online? Often, faculty struggle with understanding how to improve students’ listening and speaking skills in Canvas. This session will showcase a solution to this problem and demonstrate that learning a new language online is not only possible, it can be transformative. You will see examples of asynchronous listening and speaking activities that engage real-world learning and support the needs of more students.

What is VoiceThread? VoiceThread is an asynchronous tool that integrates with the Canvas VoiceThread also allows instructors to create engaging lesson plans that incorporate online discussions, storytelling, grammar explanations, and presentations. It can be used for both formative and summative assessments.

Why use VoiceThread? VoiceThread is a tool that enables students to practice their listening and conversational skills for language courses in a fun and engaging way.

In this presentation, participants will learn how to create a VoiceThread. Participants will learn how to make audio and video comments, view an example of a dynamic instructor lesson plan in action with active student feedback, and participants will learn how to use comment moderation tools for assessments.
