Spanning Boundaries – Building a Districtwide Distance Ed Institute

This session presents our experience in planning and building a districtwide collaborative Professional Development program for online teaching across three campuses and two off-campus centers, each with its own culture, and distinct and diverse student populations. e serve [1] online students and [2] faculty teaching online. This presentation describes our journey of coming together to work collaboratively across differences to build a collaborative and communal online professional development series. We’ll discuss planning, hurdles, struggles and successes. It will discuss the strength of a unified approach across the district in working to mobilize administrators, faculty, and technology trainers to create an online professional development series to support online teaching faculty and the students we all serve.

Session Outcomes:
• Understanding a new approach to collaborating beyond a college and across a district.
• Identify strategies to build a high-quality online professional development program that overcomes differences and funding barriers.
• Mobilize the planning process across campus stakeholders and solidify a passionate and committed professional development team.
