The development of Open Educational Resources (OER) for online learning needs to take into consideration several factors such as platform choice, accessibility, design, multiple forms of access to ensure equity and student success and availability to the academic community. The presenter will detail the lessons learned in OER creation with an ongoing project to create a Basic Skills/Transfer Level ESL writing textbook, Writing 4 Gen Ed, using free and open-source platforms, applications and materials. Some of the applications and resources discussed will be Pressbooks, CK-12, OpenStax, H5P and Lumen Learning.
Participants will have a chance to interact with the materials and share their own concerns and experiences developing OER. Finally, participants will be encouraged to provide feedback, suggestions for future development, thus making this a truly community-based resource for college-level writing instruction.
• Identify the pros and cons of various platforms for OER.
• Assess the feasibility of OER creation for their own context.
• Compile resources that help to foster community for OER development.
